Phil Sharp on The Spirit of Independence is giving it everything he’s got in the decisive 430mile final leg in the Solitaire du Figaro, which got
underway from Les Sables d’Olonne on Sunday.
Sharp in currently in 23rd and has positioned himself close to
overall race leaders Jeremie Beyou and Fabien Delahaye.

Phil, on The Spirit of Independence, finishes in 20th place after dropping from 6th place overnight after running into a large clump of seaweed, dashing his hopes of finishing top Rookie. Aside from this set-back, a very positive leg overall where Phil never dropped out of the top 10 and shows he has the boatspeed to stay in touch with the leaders...

46 competitors in the Solitaire du Figaro have completed the second leg, 440 miles from Caen to Dún Laoghaire close to Dublin on the East coast of
Ireland. Phil Sharp on The Spirit of Independence was
the top British finisher, the 2nd rookie across the line and 23rd place overall, just over an hour behind the leader.

The second stage of the Soltaire du Figaro got underway on Sunday afternoon. The one-design
fleet face 470 miles of challenging conditions as they head to Dun Loaghaire on
the northeast coast of Ireland, where they are expected to arrive on Wednesday
10th August. A low pressure is expected to sweep over the fleet on
Sunday night and forecasters predict both strong winds and tidal currents.
